I know that it stands there, but somehow I think of it as highly doubtful - it's just not within usual logic that one 'race' got all the pretty faces and another not a single one.
I don't think of the cast as 'out of hand' anyway. And 'pretty' is not ony a matter of the look - sometimes the 'aura' somone emits can also be the element you're looking for (and let's be honest: There are more male characters writtin in than female, but it's just SO much easier to find an elvish looking femal - and even make her more pretty than a male ).

That's true.. there ain't that many elvish looking male actors out there... still, with Hugo Weaving I always waited he'd sprout the earpiece and black shades from Matrix
And Orlando Bloom imho has the problem that he's naturally a dark type, with black hair and beard, so the white blonde hair in LoTR and Hobbit make him look a bit pale and sickly - he looked much better in Pirates of the Carribean or Kingdom of Heavens.

And I completely agree that there has to be a wide range of looks in the several races - there have to be average-looking elves and handsome dwarves. And after all "good looking" always is something very subjective or we'd all look after the same guys/girls.

In addition: Evangeline Lilly (I didn't noticed until reading the end credits, but thought that she looked somehow familiar; never followed Lost after all though) is a dark type too ... maybe it's the red hair. *wonders*

There are some general characteristics of what's being considered 'attractive' though.

I had to say I lol-ed a little when watchging the vlogs (several times actually) and noticing that the smallest in the group of dwarves was actually Peter Jackson himself.

Yeah, PJ ain't the tallest of men... although I think he's got more from a Hobbit... anyone ever seen him without shoes?

I didn't know Evangeline Lilly before, completely a new face for me. But yeah, it might be the red hair - it's dark red, not bright red, so it doesn't change the type too much. It has something to do with the tone of the skin, I think. I'm naturally what you call street-dog-blonde, and that's a boring colour, so I started dying my hair early on. Darker tones and black are just fine, but with white blonde I look like a zombie come back to life.
Funny enough Lee Pace (the Thranduil actor) is dark-blonde or brown-haired too, but somehow he gets along much better with the white blonde hair.

So Nawm and I finished re-watching the LotR trilogy, and he finally appreciates them! We even watched maybe half of all the extra's on the 15 disc set (not including the 4 comment tracks that come with each movie)
